What kind of golf ball should I use?

Filed Under (Corporate Logo Golf Balls) by admin on 15-04-2011

I am about a 13 handicap. I don’t need any distance, I think. I’m about 250-280 off the tee. I tend to slice with my woods and hook my irons. I’m only 13 and can’t spend too much money, but if it’s a good ball I can pay for it. Any suggestions would be helpful!

What Golf Balls Should You Consider Playing With

There are three major brands that monopolize a golfer’s personal preference for the best golf balls in town. Aside from the brand names, you can base your ball preferences on certain standards such as the, ball type that mostly depends on a golfers playing type, based on your own ability as a golfer and of course, based on the playing environment.

Everyone knows that Titleist, Callaway and Nike are the best in the market. Playing with one of these balls is considered a win- win choice among the players. It is no doubt that Titleist is on top of the charts. The golden price tag on these golf balls are worth it especially if you are good enough to qualify as a pro.

Performance wise, this company have mastered the manufacturing of aerodynamic enhanced golf balls that combines both distance and control. Callaway’s HX tour golf balls are their carrier series. Unlike the Titleist Pro V1, this specific type of balls has moderate spin, stops quickly and has a great feel on the greens. Next to the HX tour line, the HX Hot series offers longer distance and works moderately good on the greens.

For only $25 per case, it offers great value and performance for regular players rather than grabbing one of that Pro V1 or HX tour which cost around $40 per case. Nike, being one of the biggest sport shop offers a wider range of golf balls compared to the first two mentioned.

As for their carrier golf ball lines, the Nike One series are available in three types. The Nike One black series offers maximum distance and reduced spins for high launch conditions. Nike One Platinum and Gold on the other hand are designed for higher flight at a lower spin rate.

Choosing depends on which type of golf ball is the player most comfortable with. There is also the option of choosing the balls according to playing types. Among the three basic ball types, the balata golf balls is the most expensive and are most preferred to by the professionals. It allows maximum spin and control because it is made up with a softer core.

The two-piece ball allows the player to achieve longer distances in every strike and is much preferred for rounds with a higher handicap. Lastly, a combination ball gives you the best features of the two other balls, generally preferred by everyone because it suits almost all playing style.

Another would be choosing the balls according to his abilities. If the player is a little off that day or it’s he’s a bit inexperienced, hitting Nike or Titleist will cost him a small fortune. Aside from that, high handicap golfer is not much affected on what kind of golf ball they play.

The Environment is also of utmost important in selecting golf balls. Using hard golf balls on dry courses might get you out of your rhythm. That is the same reason why players carry different types of balls depending on the course, heavier balls for wet courses and lighter ones for dry courses.

So many Golfers ask this Question. Years ago Golfers didn’t have much of a choice when picking a golf ball. Wooden, then goose feathered golf balls. Then came the guttie balls made out of sap from the Sapodilla tree. Golf’s biggest advancements have come via dramatic improvements in ball construction. Compared to 30 years ago, today’s golf ball travels farther, rolls longer, doesn’t lose its round, flies straighter, and won’t split its cover if you look at it wrong. Precisely engineered dimple patterns have allowed manufacturers to alter everything from trajectory to spin rates. As a result of these breakthroughs, players now have the opportunity to choose and play the best ball for their games

Golf ball technology continues to evolve and today’s golfers have a multitude of choices.

www.golfingace.com

Choosing the right golf balls is part science and part personal preference. Golf balls today fall into two basic categories, distance and spin. Balls for amateur or recreational players (those with low swing speed) should be for distance. Balls for the physically strong player (with a higher swing speed) should be for spin.

Have your swing tested for speed at your local driving range, then armed with this information you can choose the proper ball type and style for your golf game. With you swing speed, and knowing your playing ability, pick a ball the suits your needs. Your local pro can help you pick a golf ball or a sporting goods salesman may also help you. Maybe you can pick a couple of different types and try them out and see which is better for your game. Test until you can the best feeling ball.
Golf balls will have more impact to your game than any other piece of equipment you will have. Using the right ball will mean truer flight, better targeting, and greater distance for your game. All this means you can control your distance, which means lower scores.

Should You Buy Used Titleist Golf Balls

There is no doubt Titleist makes some of the best golfing equipment available. The brand is used by professionals, amateurs and recreational players for some time now. What if you want the quality Titleist product but at reduced prices? Playing used Titleist golf balls may be your answer. Used golf balls may have a spot in your game, consider some of these points.

When considering used golf balls your first concern is quality. When you pay for Titleist you want to know you can improve your distance or gain greater control on the greens. Without that incentive you might as well go to your local sports store and get a dozen generic balls. Retailers that sell wholesale golf balls will grade their inventory so that customers know what they are purchasing. For instance, a mint condition ball, also known as AAAAA or AAA ball, will look like new. With this grade it can happen that the ball in question was only hit once. At far lower prices you can play a what looks like a new ball. It is quite a savings.

Balls are also graded either B or C. It could be this grade of ball has a blemish here or there. Perhaps they are off color or have a scuff mark or two. Are these still a bargain? They are ideal for practice when you want to work on your stance and swing. Newcomers to the game of golf inevitably will lose some balls, or it could be you want to practice that particularly difficult hole, either way it would save you money. You still get the Titleist brand name quality albeit slightly diminished. But using these for another purpose in perfecting your game might be just what you need.

There are times when you can get brand new balls at used ball prices. For instance this might occur with special order golf balls. This might happen when a company orders hundreds or thousands of balls each imprinted with their logo for some sort of special event. During the final quality control check they may have extras or some with slight imperfections in the logo. These then they sell at used prices. As you might guess this is an excellent way to get brand new balls at discounted prices. These deals are available online at certain vendors so check around for these great values.

You will get no argument when you say Titleist is one of the premier brands in golf. That quality and performance can be yours at a fraction of the price. You can easily go online and then do some research to find a reputable wholesaler and do some comparison shopping. Scour the site looking for any specials you might find and be sure to ask the site owner any questions you might have regarding their used Titleist golf balls. By doing this you will find quality name brand golf balls at greatly reduced prices.

“What Golf Ball Should I Play?” & “Which Golf Ball Should I Play?”

Well that’s the easy one of course. The Right One! If you are up on the rules of golf, because rule:15 – 3 clearly states that:

‘If a competitor plays a stroke or strokes with a wrong ball, he shall incur a penalty of two strokes.’

As to “What golf ball should I play?” Now that’s quite a different subject, and one that I’d like to talk to you about.

Many of my students ask me which golf ball they should play, and many don’t come to think of it. In fact a lot of them go out and buy golf balls based on what the advertisements have told them. ‘Drive it further’, ‘Hit It Longer’. Funnily enough I have an advert in front of me that tells me that 1.5 billion golf balls will be lost this year and that they’ll all have to be replaced. True enough. But with what?

Now I could start going into lots of technical stuff here, like spin rate, compression, MOI, mantle core, etc. But really, who cares. What you care about is finding the right ball for you. So how do you do that?

Well when it comes to deciding “What golf ball should I play?” what you don’t want to do (and I’m assuming here that you are not a scratch golfer) is rush out and buy a $45 box of Titleist Pro V1′s hoping that they are going to take your game to new levels. In fact consider this. In an article in a leading golf magazine this year, Rob Akins, a top 50 Golf Instructor, suggests that…

“Too many golfers are shortchanging themselves by playing the cheap ball. The balls pros play might be double or even triple what others cost, but they help average golfers score better.”

Now consider this. Two pages later, in an article about an experiment to test cheap balls vs ‘Tour’ balls, Golfers were issued with Pinnacle Dimension balls (Around $15 per dozen), for their round. Even a plus two handicapper said that the trajectory and feel were exactly the same as his usual tour ball. In fact these low handicap players averaged only three shots worse with the cheaper ball.

So….What YOU need to do is, pick up a 3 pack of Callaway Big Bertha’s, Noodle+ Easy Distance, Pinnacle Dimension, Srixon Soft Feel, Top Flite Gamer V2 (The ball I play, by the way) and maybe one Tour Ball pack, Titleist Pro V1 or Bridgestone B330, and head to your local course.

Now balls in hand (so to speak). Hit shots to THE GREEN! Because it’s shots to the green that are going to lower YOUR score. Hit chips to the green. Hit pitches to the green. Hit full wedges to the green. Only counting the shots that you hit well, the ball that stops the fastest in each scenario, is the ball for you. Really test each ball from different positions around the green. Now, if you end up with two or three balls that you can’t decide between, then move back to the Tee, or your local park, and hit drives. If one ball is giving you the more distance of the Tee as well, then this is clearly the ball for you.

Does this sound like a lot of work? Maybe! However, it’s going to save you dollars in the long run, and improve your score. Do you really want to be losing a Pro V1 on every other hole, at over $45 per dozen?

I didn’t think so. Happy Golfing!
