Reasons Golf Balls Are Important For Golfers

The game of ball employs the use of a small solid white ball with indentations or dimples on it. The objective of the game is to get the ball into each of nine or eighteen holes as quickly as you can, in other words with the minimum number of hits. The ball is kept on top of a stand called a âteeâ, and the stand may be wooden or of plastic material. The phrase of teeing off therefore means beginning a game of golf, or one session by hitting the ball with a club.
As everything else, the golf ball too has evolved into something quite different to what it was when the game was first played. The sport was initiated in Holland during the sixteen hundreds, where it was played under the name of âcolfâ. During that time, the game made use of a ball made out of wood, and it was a pleasant past time in the beautiful fields of the country. The main draw back of the balls used during that time was the distance it could be hit. While modern golf balls are known to cover up to three hundred yards, they could rarely cover a hundred.
Over the many years, the golf ball has seen changes in weight, appearance and material as well. The initial wood ball has metamorphosed through many stages to arrive at what we at present call a golf ball. Initially it turned from wooden to a feathery material, and later to a gutty, later into a rubber ball and now it is made of titanium or balata, what we use today.
Today you can get golf balls that are smooth or indented with dimples. The dimpled versions are far more favored among players because they are designed to travel so much further than the former. Still, what a player chooses to use is only a matter of preference as long as the balls are as symmetrical as possible (to remain within golf laws). When a golf ball is in flight in the air it is acted upon by two forces called the lift and the drag. To make things simpler, letâs say the drag is what slows down the speed of the golf ball as it travels in flight, and also lowers its altitude, whilst a lift is what helps it travel higher and further. The dimpled version of the ball gives it more lift.
When people used the wooden variety of the ball, they couldnât really hit it very far and as a result of this the games tended to last much longer than as we know golf today. Thanks to technical advances in the manufacture of golf balls, todayâs players can make better hits with more accuracy as a result of the size and perfected shape of their golf balls. Today the golf ball needs to meet certain standards of dimensions to be allowed in a play. The ball should weigh no more than about 45 ounces while its diameter should be at least 1.68 inches (no one would want a larger ball that would travel less distance when in flight so an upper limit of diameter is not necessary).
Pro level tournaments only use the white variety of balls, although colored ones are quite popular for practice. Finally there is so much to choose in design, it is only a matter of what kind of ball the player prefers to use that counts.

Originally, golfers were of the opinion that the solid golf balls offered little control of spin and performed poorly in general. They were used to the wound ball. Technology has now advanced to where golf ball reviews will show the increased popularity and use of solid balls.
Beyond the two basis types, there are one piece, two-piece and three-piece balls. The one piece, made of Surlyn with dimples, is the basic ball for on the driving range or just starting out. You won’t get much distance, but they are very durable and inexpensive, which makes them great for practicing. Two-piece balls have the core and a strong covering. Due to the high restitution covering, you will get great distance and durability. Manufacturers are now able to make them “softer” which contributes to greater control. Golf ball reviews have shown that these are very popular for the every day golfer on the course.
Three-piece balls, wound with a liquid center or solid, allow the more experienced golfer the control he wants. The backspin is very good and there is good distance and height. These are more for the experienced golfer who is able to “control” his shots with spin and distance.
There are also four-piece balls, but they are new on the market. They are made of a soft Urethane, are durable and great for distance.
You will be able to choose if you are looking for spin or feel golf balls. Golf ball reviews will help you decide which ball is right for you. Low spin golf balls will lessen the amount of side spin when you shoot, therefore the ball will go straighter in the air. It may not go as far in the air as you”d like, but with less spin it will roll more when it hits the ground. This is a good ball for player that is unable to get a long drive. A mid spin golf balls is the ball most suitable for all players. It combines both distance and feel. High spin golf balls are made to increase the spin when it”s in the air and go farther. They are used a lot by golfers that hit right to left with a draw.
Firm feel golf balls are used for distance, and will feel hard when hit. They are used if distance is more important than spinning onto the green. It’s a very durable ball and will go many rounds. Mid feel golf balls act similar to the mid spinning ball in that it is the most suitable for all players. It combines distance with being easily controlled on the green. Soft feel golf balls are balls used by many professional golfers that are able to use spin on short shots. It is not a ball for beginners. It is easily nicked or damaged due to the soft cover.
